Excerpt from the book An interesting research study gave either passionflower or benzodiazepine in the form of oxazepam for 28 days to people with generalized anxiety. The patients were all evaluated by a psychiatrist before the experiment and after 4, 7, 17, 21, and 28 days. After 28 days, there was just as much anxiety-reducing effect from passionflower as seen in those who received oxazepam. However, there was a large difference in the measured side effects, as oxazepam alone caused sluggishness, drowsiness, and problems with attending work. These side effects are not seen in those who received passionflower.
